The Story of Us

We met at a braai in the Netherlands, thanks to a mutual friend who decided to play matchmaker. Neither of us expected much from that night, but we couldn't stop sneaking glances at each other.

Over the next few days, Riaan joined in on a few of our plans. Tulip fields, market strolls and laughter that came far too easily. Somewhere along the way, something quietly began.

When it came time for me to leave, Riaan came with me to the train station. We both felt there was something more, but I told myself it couldn't go anywhere - I was living and working in Germany, and moving countries for someone I'd just met sounded impossible.

Until it wasn't. Three months later I was unpacking my suitcases in the Netherlands and I am still wondering if I moved for work... or for him!

The Little Things

What has been our most memorable holiday together so far?
How do you choose between the Northern Lights in Finland, where it all began, or a Croatian Island, where forever began?

Who takes longer to pack for a holiday?
Cristina... technically! But Riaan's last-minute sprint evens it out!

What is our favorite way to spend a Sunday?

Sundays are for coffee dates, cozy movies and pressing pause together!

Who makes the morning coffee?

Mostly Riaan but, whoever is up first, wins the coffee game!

Who is most likely to get hangry?

Cristina. Every time. Riaan has learned that snacks are the language of love.

Who is most likely to wash dishes forever?

Riaan... because someone has to balance out the hangry one.

If love were measured in yummy snacks, ours would be...

Ice-cream and cookies... one melts, one crumbles but both make life better!

If we were a weather forecast, we would be...

Warm and bright with the occasional dramatic thunderstorm.

Happily every after looks like...

Wherever we end up, we're hoping for the sound of tiny feet running around, big hearts and the dog Riaan's still pretending we don't really need...

The Journey

Finding your way

Every journey has a beginning, and for some of you, this one starts at King Shaka International Airport.

From here, your travers continue toward the celebration, whether you choose to rent a car, share a ride or follow the little paths we have outlined to make it easier for you.

On the Road to "I Do"

Rental cars are available at the airport, and we have added helpful links below to make it easy to find the right option.

However you arrive, what matters most is that you will be with us to continue our story.

Directions from Durban

From Durban, it’s just about an hour’s drive to Sweethome Weddings & Functions.

Simply take the N3 highway toward Pietermaritzburg, then turn off toward Eston.

Follow the country roads and venue signs along the road until you reach the destination.

Directions from Johannesburg

From Johannesburg, the drive to Sweethome Weddings & Functions in Eston takes around 5–6 hours.

The route is simple - take the N3 highway toward Durban, then follow signs for Pietermaritzburg.

From there, head toward Eston, where the little roads will guide you into the countryside. Keep an eye out for the venue signs along the way.

Because this is a longer trip, we recommend making a weekend of it by booking accommodation nearby.

In Lieu of Gifts

We feel incredibly lucky to have so many of you traveling from near and far to celebrate with us, your presence truly means a lot to us. We don't expect gifts as having you there is already more than enough.

If you would still like to give something, a contribution toward our honeymoon, first home, or future together would be deeply appreciated, but never expected.

You might be wondering...

From plus-ones to parking, kids to cocktails, we've rounded up a few answers to make sure you know exactly what to expect on the day.

If something is unclear, or you need a hand, who’s best to reach out to?

If you have any questions before the day, or find yourself needing a little guidance, please feel free to reach out to us directly. We’re always happy to help.

Is there space for a plus one to join the fun?

We’re looking forward to celebrating with those closest to us. If your invitation is addressed to include a plus one, we’d be happy to celebrate together.

Will there be space on the dance floor for little feet?

Children are very welcome when they’re included on the invitation. If their name is listed on your invite, we’ll be delighted to have them join us in celebrating the day.

What will the little ones get up to during the celebration?

Besides showing off their best moves on the dance floor, there will be a dedicated kids room with a tv where little ones can relax, unwind, and enjoy some quiet time during the evening.

Should you wish for your children to sleep there, we kindly ask that you bring along anything they might need, such as a blanket or mattress, to help them settle in comfortably.

How dressed up should we be for the day?

Think winter celebration with an elegant but relaxed feel. Dress up, stay cosy, and wear something you’ll feel comfortable enjoying the day (and the dance floor) in.

Is parking available at the venue?

Yes, there is safe and convenient parking available on-site at Sweethome.

How are we toasting the night - open bar, cash bar, or a mix of both?

There will be a cash bar available throughout the celebration. Payment can be made by card, cash or Zapper — whatever is easiest for you.

Are photos welcome during the celebration - phones out or phones away?

We’d love for you to capture moments throughout the day. During the ceremony, we kindly ask that phones stay tucked away so everyone can be fully present. After that, snap and share away.

When’s the best time to arrive on the day?

We recommend arriving around 15–30 minutes before the ceremony begins, giving you time to settle in and enjoy the atmosphere.
